I have four toilets in my house. I know nothing about the scarcity of toilets and my tap water is clean and filtered. WaterAid works around the world providing clean water and sanitation to impoverished communities.
Here are some facts about the water and sanitation environment in the country:
79% of schools don’t have clean water.
41% of schools don’t have a toilet.
Only 14% of the rural population has access to safe water compared to 66% of the urban population.
7.5% of the rural population and 27% of the urban population have access to adequate sanitation.
Children are forced to “potty” in the open because of the lack of toilets.
I may not be able to give the children of Madagascar one of my bathrooms, but I can help them from where I’m at by donating and by spreading the word. And so can you. Donate, share the information, and follow WaterAid’s precious work. We can all make a difference, together.
One day I’d like to visit Madagascar. And when I visit I wouldn’t want to learn that the animals outlasted the children.
